The Import Dispatch is the process to which all charges are submitted after arrival in Portugal (either by air, sea or land).
All charges which originate outside the European Union are subject to verification by the Portuguese customs.
Therefore, in order to carry out this dispatch within normal procedures, it is necessary for the owner of the merchandise to present the following documents:
- Baggage claim
- Copy of passport
- Copy of the taxpayer’s number and tax address
- Residence certificate
- Completion of two customs declarations
The Export Order is a process similar to the import dispatch, this time, whose charges are destined for countries that do not belong to the European Community.
To carry out this process the owner of the cargo must present the following documents:
- Copy of passport
- Copy of the Taxpayer Number
- Copy of the Taxpayer Number
You can freely import or export all articles that are considered personal property used as well as motor vehicles, and are always duly supported by the presentation of the necessary documentation for that purpose.
Prohibited articles are considered as pornographic material, firearms, food products, personal hygiene products, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, herbs, spices … etc.
In case some of the items listed above are detected by the customs, the owner will be fined and the articles seized. Therefore avoid sending these types of articles and always respect the rules imposed by law.
